It’s been a long time coming, but Los Angeles finally has its first official Chief Innovation Technology Officer.

Mayor Eric Garcetti appointed Peter Marx with the position early last week.

Marx’s tasks will include improving the MyLA311service, upgrading the city’s websites, and applying data sharing and analysis to upgrade city government performance.

Prior to this new role, the LA native served as the vice president of Business Development at Qualcomm Labs, Inc., the VP of the Technology and Digital Studio at Mattel, Inc., and managed Analog Protocol, among other positions.

“Peter was my top choice from a very strong pool of applicants,” the Mayor said in a release. “I’m thrilled to have him on the team and look forward to working with him to better serve Angelenos and foster the already strong tech ecosystem here in the City of Angels. Harnessing technology is critical to the future of our economy and improving city services.”
