News | December 11, 2013

Ski mountaineering

Don’t worry, there’s still plenty of time to train. Aspen Skiing Co. announced its Power of Four Mountaineering race for March 1, a cross-country race on skis which ascends and descends the resort’s four mountains: Snowmass, Buttermilk, Aspen Highlands and Aspen Mountain. The full race covers 12,000 feet of vertical gain over 25 miles; the recreational division, which summits just two mountains, still includes 8,000 feet of vertical and 15 miles. Participant use AT or tele gear to climb uphill, and then ski downhill.
