Prada Opens its First Store in Kazakhstan

On 5 December, Prada opened its first store in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Located in Esentai, the city’s high-end shopping mall, the store was designed by architect Roberto Baciocchi and occupies a total area of approximately 740 square meters on one level. Presented are women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, bags, accessories and footwear collections.

The boutique’s impressive external angular façade pays tribute to the French-Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz-Diez, one of the founders of the Kinetic movement . It is made of a black marble surface with a projecting roof and framed by two large light boxes. There are three window displays and three entrances to both sides. The base is topped by a structure made of back-lit vertical golden-colored and polished steel panels rising to a height of three floors that create an unusual kinetic effect during the day and night-time.

The store’s main area is characterized by the classic black and white marble chequered floor – a legacy of Prada’s historic identity. It then reveals a sequence of spaces dedicated to women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, bags, accessories and footwear collections. These are shown inside an
elegant gallery lined with black Marquina marble walls and openings featuring polished steel display cabinets.

A succession of rooms then continues each of which feature typical Prada’s elements, such as green canvas walls, floors with beige carpets and display units and counters in glass, steel and colored saffiano leather.

An exciting new edition to Kazakhstan’s burgeoning luxury market, the new Prada boutique presents the brand’s latest fashion through a space that continues its Italian heritage.
