Ruinart To Celebrate Art Basel Partnership with Installation By Designer Piet Hein Eek
Ruinart is celebrating its partnership with Art Basel with an installation by designer Piet Hein Eek using blonde wood boxes that evoke the bubbly. Ruinart was established in 1729 and is the world’s oldest Champagne house. In the late 1700s, Ruinart stopped using baskets and started using wooden boxes to ship the precious product, which was kind of a big deal at the time. Eek’s installation celebrates that in a perfectly fitting way. The artist has been using recycled wood for 20 years in his art.
Eek crafted individual, wooden storage cases fitted to the unique shape of the Ruinart Blanc de Blancs bottle. Individually signed and numbered, each presentation box is unique and handmade in Eek’s workshop in Geldrop. He selects pine in shades of pale grey, white and cream to remind of Ruinart’s Blanc de Blancs cuvée. The arc will be on display at Art Basel in Miami Beach in the Art Collector Lounge, giving fair-goers the opportunity to enjoy both the artwork and a refreshing glass of the Maison’s Blanc de Blancs.
