Haute Event: Children’s Cancer & Blood Foundation Hosts Breakthrough Ball at The Plaza

The Children’s Cancer and Blood Foundation (CCBF) is a cause that tugs right at the heartstrings of humanity as one of the most worthy charities to support. On October 29, CCBF hosted the annual benefit “Breakthrough Ball” to fund cancer research, care for child cancer patients, and ultimately, cure the disease. The event successfully raised more than $1 million and honored a couple familiar faces with the help of MC, actor and philanthropist, Charles Grodin.

The “Breakthrough Spirit” award was given to Margo and John Castimatidis for their extensive philanthropic work and activism. NBA star Amar’e Stoudemire was also honored for being an outstanding role model for at-risk minors. Another incredibly admirable honoree was “Medical Breakthrough Award” winner, Dr. Patricia J. Giardina, who cultivated research that resulted in the development of new life-changing treatments for children with blood diseases.

Following the awards ceremony, former SNL legend Joe Piscopo ran a live auction with luxury items such as Super Bowl tickets, a trip to Jamaica, a cake by TLC’s Cake Boss and a Hamptons golf package. The event concluded with a bang thanks to an incredible performance by the original Broadway cast of Jersey Boys.
