Duke of Windsor Custom Cadillac Heading to NY Auction

A 1941 Cadillac custom-built for the Duke and Duchess of Windsor will hit the auction block on Nov. 21 in NYC. Featuring rose-colored broadcloth upholstery, four jewelry cases and three cigar lighters, the luxury vehicle is expected to fetch between $500,000 and $800,000.

The Windsors, who lived in the Waldorf Towers for several years, originally paid $14,000 for the car—a large sum for the ’40s. The car is outfitted with satin privacy curtains and is also one of the first Cadillacs to have power windows.

The vehicle comes with numerous documents including a copy of the 1952 NY State title bearing the Duke’s signature, his address at the Waldorf and the car’s serial number.
