‘Lion King’ is First Broadway Show to Gross $1 Billion
The hit Broadway musical, Disney’s “Lion King” is well on its way to becoming the first show to reach $1 billion in sales. The family friendly musical was just shy of the billion-dollar marker after their last October 6th show did curtain call.
The musical recently snatched the title of 5th longest running show of all time from “Les Miserables” and shows no sign of slowing down. After a 16-year run on Broadway, “The Lion King” still plays to a packed house every night. “This humbling milestone is a testament to the vision and artistry of [director] Julie Taymor,” said producer and Disney Theatrical Group president Thomas Schumacher to Hollywood Reporter. Clearly, this classic is here to stay!
