LA’s Petersen Automotive Museum is quietly putting about a third of its 400 luxury vintage cars up for sale in order to give the museum a major makeover.
Cars like a 1995 Ferrari F50, a 2006 Bugatti Veyron and a 1990 Ferrari F40 are being nudged out for other vehicles, as the new museum’s new strategy is to put a heavier emphasis on French art-deco rides and motorcycles.
The latter in particular is a fit, as new executive director Terry Karges who owns the motorcycle company Champions Moto.
According to the LA Times, The sales started in March and funds raised will finance a major face-lift and reconfiguration of the institution, which opened in 1994 on the site of the former Orbach’s department store at Wilshire Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue.
