The famous 75-year-old Superman comic book, which miraculously resurfaced during a 2013 Minnesota home renovation, just sold for $175,000 in an online auction. Building contractor David Gonzalez first discovered the illustrated gem, among vintage newspapers that served as a makeshift insulation, when he bought the 1938 Minnesota home for $10,100. The comic book, written by Jerry Siegel and illustrated by Joe Shuster in June of that year, includes the first appearance of America’s favorite superhero. Although there are only about 100 remaining copies of the historic issue, the book’s condition got a 1.5 out of 10 rating due to an accidental rip after its discovery. Conversely, a 9.5 graded copy sold for more than $2 million two years ago. Superman fans worldwide can have their own comic book flashback in theaters this Friday with Man of Steel.
