The Dodgers’ Matt Kemp Pledges $1000 Per Home Run (Plus An Added $250,000) To Oklahoma Tornado Relief
Matt Kemp has hit a home run with his latest act of charity.
The LA Dodgers player has made a pledge, via Twitter, to donate $1000 per home run he makes until the All-Stars.
Kemp, 28, was born and raised in Midwest City, Oklahoma., and the tornado crisis is so personal to him that he additionally pledged an extra $250,000 to tornado relief efforts there.
“I know where the schools are. My mom lived in a house in Moore and we gave it to my aunt and uncle. They weren’t home today, but they said two blocks away there’s nothing left,” Kemp said via MLB.com. “I’ve never been through an earthquake, but I’ve seen what a tornado can do and you just can’t even believe it.”
He sent the following message through his manager that solidified his very charitable donation:
“Dear Families of OKC,
On Monday, out of concern and emotion I committed $1,000.00 for every home run I hit until the All-Star Break. It was a quick and small gesture in advance of what I knew would be my greater contribution through your rebuilding process. I am keeping my pledge and in addition, donating $250,000.00. May God bless you through this and the many generous donations coming to your aid.”
