Former NYC Police Commissioner Bill Bratton To Appear Alongside Tom Hanks in ‘Lucky Guy’
Former New York City Police Commissioner Bill Bratton will appear alongside Tom Hanks in “Lucky Guy,” the new Nora Ephron play about newspaper columnist Mike McAlary.
Bratton will appear — on video — in one of they play’s most important scenes. In the footage, he recreates two 1994 press conferences and apologizes to a rape victim whom McAlary smeared in the press. “They weren’t able to find any video of the press conferences at any of the television stations, but they had the transcript, so they asked me to re-create them,” Bratton told the New York Post. “They’re small scenes, but they’re very critical in the play.”
Though Bratton is undoubtedly excited about his Broadway debut, he said that filming the scenes brought back memories of the heartbreaking case, in which a 27-year-old woman was raped in Prospect Park in 1994.
Previews for the play begin Friday at the Broadhurst Theater.
