Kevin Powers and Tobias Wolff Kick Off Winter Words
Two award-winning authors writing about two different wars meet on stage this Friday for a one-of-a-kind conversation to kick off the Aspen Writers’ Foundation’s Winter Words series. Kevin Powers is the author of The Yellow Birds, a 2012 National Book Award nomination, and Wollf has written several books, such as This Boy’s Life and The Barracks Thief.
Both are veterans–Powers served in Iraq and Wolff in Vietnam–which tackle their respective wars in a fictional and incredibly compelling, beautiful way. Powers’ work has been compared The Things They Carried and All’s Quiet on the Western Front, with his book finding rank among classic war fiction. Wolff has received numerous awards, including the PEN/Faulkner Award.
Their conversation will cover their first-hand accounts of two of America’s most controversial wars, and the experiences that allowed them to create highly acclaimed war fiction.
