Sketch: Two Michelin-Stars in London

News | January 17, 2013

There is really only one way to deal with the bleakness of January, and that is to treat yourself to a really fabulous meal. While everyone else is killing themselves at the gym after work you’ll be sipping champagne and feasting on a Michelin-starred meal. It’ll have to be somewhere with fantastic service, mood-elevating décor and food that is inspired; somewhere just like the Lecture Room & Library at Sketch.

Opened in 2002, the restaurant was conceived by French chef Pierre Gagnaire (his eponymous restaurant in Paris has three Michelin stars) and restaurateur Mourad Mazouz. By 2005 Gagnaire was awarded the first Michelin star, with his second given in 2012. Clearly, this man knows what he is doing. The space was designed by Mourad Mazouz and Gabhan O’Keefe, and the Lecture Room is opulent to say the least. Rich upholstery in shades of purple, crimson and orange, studded leather walls and crystal encrusted bathrooms. It’s the Russian Tea Room meets Studio 54, in a really good way.

The menu is exceptional, and nothing if not creative. One of his most popular dishes is called Perfume of the Earth, inspired by the chef’s favourite perfume, Hermès’ Terre d’Hermes. Add to this a wine list that boasts 1,600 different wines from more than 19 countries and before you know it you’ll have forgotten it’s January at all.
