Location, Location, Location: The Haute 5 Neighborhoods in Las Vegas

News | March 25, 2010

You roll into Vegas to play in poker tournaments, check out the clubs, and dine at places like Joël Robuchon or Guy Savoy. You find that you want to extend your trips longer and longer, allowing more time for some haute explorations. You might decide to exchange the Vegas vacation and all of its high-rolling entrapments for Las Vegas living, at least part time.

With close to 300 days of sun every year, and pools open from March to October, Las Vegas brings the temptations right to your doorstep. Like any other city, you want to know where to live before you even start looking.

Avi Dan-Goor, a real estate agent with Shapiro & Sher Group Prudential Americana, the top luxury real estate agency in Nevada, picked out some of the top Las Vegas’ neighborhoods that you could call home. From Summerlin to Henderson, each of these neighborhoods feature gated communities with 24-hour guards, and many surround some of the most luxurious golf courses in the city.

Tournament Hills at The Tournament Players Club

Golf clubs are a big deal in Las Vegas. November, December, and maybe the high heat of August are about the only obstacles that prevent playing year round. Therefore, communities built around golf courses play well with luxury homes, especially when the course is exclusive. TPC at the Canyons, part of the PGA Tour’s network of clubs and the centerpiece of this neighborhood, plays host to the Senior PGA Tour’s Las Vegas Senior Classic. Estate homes in Tournament Hills, with their views of the golf course, range from $1 million to more than $5 million, Dan-Goor says.

The Ridges

Houses in this village in the southwestern part of Summerlin start at $1.5 million and sell for up to $8 million. Sitting in the shadow of the Spring Mountain Range and Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, “It’s the hottest neighborhood,” reports Dan-Goor. The Ridges boasts amenities that rival the most exclusive communities in the nation, including the world’s first Jack Nicklaus-designed Bear’s Best golf course. Walk in the footsteps of the legend who created this replication of 18 of his most-celebrated holes.

Eagle Hills

In the northwest part of Summerlin sits Eagle Hills, home to houses in the $1 million to $5 million range, Dan-Goor says, and built in the mid-90s. Like most neighborhoods in this price range, the gated community has a 24-hour guard. Homes sit on lots from one-quarter to one acre. Nearby is the Meadows School, the most-exclusive private school in Vegas.

Terracina at Seven Hills

Live in a community based on the Italian Renaissance with Spanish-themed homes in the $1 million to $2.5 million range. Like many high-end areas, it’s built around its own golf course, this time the Rio Secco Golf Club. You can find some stunning views of the Strip from a new perspective atop the McCullough mountain range. Southeast of Las Vegas, Seven Hills is located in Henderson and is home to Mr. Las Vegas, Tony Curtis, and Jason Giambi; the village was named after the famous Tuscan region in Italy.

MacDonald Highlands

This is the Beverly Hills of Las Vegas with homes valued at up to $15 million, according to Dan-Goor. Tree-lined streets and fitness paths connect three neighborhood parks, the Dragon Ridge Golf Club, and the only Jack Nicklaus Academy of Golf. For relaxation, look for the Zen Meditation Garden, and the Sleeping Dragon, an outcropping of rocks that cast good luck on those who touch them.
