News | December 12, 2012

The Guggenheim Young Collectors Council celebrated 15 years of contemporary art acquisitions for the the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum’s permanent collection with a dinner and cocktail reception on Dec. 11. Following an intimate dinner in the museum’s James Beard Award–winning restaurant, the Wright, guests enjoyed a cocktail reception in the iconic rotunda.

Several of the new works acquired by the YCC by artists William Cordova, Natascha Sadr Haghighian, and Alexandre Singh were on display as part of the exhibition, Now’s the Time: Recent Acquisitions. “We’ve acquired well over 120 works since our founding and we acquire several new works every year,” explains YCC Cochair Dan Tanzilli. “I really like the Natascha Sadr Haghighian piece, which is basically an installation of nails angrily hammered into the wall that says ‘I Can’t Work Like This.’ It really is quite an exceptional piece.”

YCC Cochair Noreen Ahmad says she’s most excited about the Julia Dault piece the group recently acquired. “It’s a beautiful painting and it’s been a long time since we’ve been in a position to acquire a painting,” she revealed.
