New Yorkers Invade Miami Beach For Art Basel 2012

News | December 6, 2012

As temperatures continue to plummet in New York, several celebrities are escaping to sunny Miami Beach to celebrate the 11th annual Art Basel. While some A-listers are just here for the parties, others have become serious collectors. Diddy reportedly bought an Ivan Navarro sculpture during the exhibition’s VIP preview on Tuesday (and has his eye on a large Basquiat). Funny man Owen Wilson was also seen roaming the aisles with mega-collector Jose Mugrabi, while Chelsea Handler and Andre Balazs were spotted chatting with Pace Gallery’s Marc Glimcher.

More than 260 leading galleries from North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa are taking part in the event, which showcases works by more than 2,000 artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. And of course, the celebrations go well into the night. Stella McCartney, Stefano Tonchi, China Chow, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger and Nicole Miller were spotted schmoozing at Phillips de Pury’s after party, while Demi Moore, Lenny Kravitz, Martha Stewart, Pharrell Williams partied at Chanel’s beach side soiree.

Art Basel runs from Dec. 6 -9.
