Where to Find Olympics-Inspired Food & Drink Specials in LA

News | July 26, 2012

Should you want to toast the opening ceremony tomorrow (and you will), here are the LA and OC-based haute spots that are offering specialty cocktails and nibbles in honor of America’s Olympic hopefuls.

The Windows Lounge at the Four Seasons Los Angeles

The Windows Lounge is celebrating the Olympics with a speciality Brit-inspired menu. Executive Chef Ashley James pays tribute to the homeland with dishes such as a Fish and Chip “Butty” Sandwich with wild arugula and tartar sauce; Warm Sausage and Sage Rolls with house-made ketchup; the Golden Olympic Glory with Regier Farms peaches, Devonshire ice cream, raspberry sorbet, whipped cream and amaretti crumbles; and the Olympic Eccles Cakes with Devonshire ice cream and berries.

The cocktails are just as fabulous at the Four Seasons, as they’ve created a specialty drinks menu in honor of the Olympics. Try out the Pimm’s Cup, with Pimm’s No. 1, fresh meyer lemon juice and ginger ale; the London Cooler with Absolut Citron Vodka, fresh meyer lemon juice and ice tea; and Golden Dream with Hennessy Paradis, Moet & Chandon Rose Champagne and topped with a 24 karat gold leaf; and The Big Ben which is a lovely pairing of a Hendrick’s Gin and cucumber martini and traditional English cucumber finger sandwiches.

Umami Burger

When the U.S. Women’s Olympic Volleyball Team recently visited Umami Burger’s new Anaheim location, they had a special request: the ladies wanted avocado on their burgers. Sadly, Umami doesn’t do substitutions. Happily for the Olympians, a new burger was created in their honor. The “Road to London” burger – beef patty, beer cheddar, bacon lardons, lettuce, tomato and crushed avocado – is available at that location through August 12.

WP24

Wolfgang Puck’s downtown restaurant on the 24th floor of the Ritz-Carlton is featuring a pricey new cocktail to benefit the Special Olympics. The  $24 Go for the Gold cocktail contains Oxley gin, rosemary and lemon; it is available through August.

The Resort at Pelican Hill

Newport Beach’s Coliseum Pool & Grill and Pelican Grill  at the Resort at Pelican Hill will also feature a special Olympics-themed menu. Dishes include “Diving Scallops”, “Butterfly Swimming Prawns”, “Judo Tossed Salad” and “Handball Open-Faced Sandwich.”
