Great GoogaMooga Festival Offers Refunds to VIPs
Superfly, the promoter behind The Great GoogaMooga, announced plans today to refund anyone who’d purchased $250 tickets for access to the food and music festival’s “Extra Mooga” VIP section. The two-day event debuted in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park over the weekend, and did not go off without a hitch. Extra Mooga and plain old regular Mooga patrons (whose admission was free) complained of long lines and food shortages. Superfly put it succinctly themselves in a press release, saying they’d “promised [ticket holders] a terrific Extra Mooga experience this past weekend and didn’t deliver.”
An estimated 40,000 people attended the event, which featured appearances by chef and Travel Channel bad boy Anthony Bourdain and comedian Aziz Ansari, a D.J. set by former LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy and a performance by Hall & Oates. Despite Superfly’s missteps and crowd grumbling, which echoed through the park in spite of gorgeous weather all weekend, the team behind GoogaMooga intends to be back next year and eventually build “an iconic food festival for New York.”
