Gene Simmons Attends Opening Of El Segundo Restaurant Rock&Brews
It was a typical glamorous Southern California party in El Segundo Saturday, with free-flowing booze, a plethora of beautiful women and rock stars from Velvet Revolver and the Village People—and then Gene Simmons showed up.
The excitement didn’t solely stem from his appearance, but in the manner in which he did—on a ledge high above the guests’ heads in the concert hall-esque dining area of Rock&Brews, his new El Segundo restaurant.
Simmons, rocker turned entrepreneur, strode out as every guest raised a phone or camera to capture his presence. His speech, which touched on Rock&Brew’s ambitious expansion plans, was brash and basic (in an eloquent way). He ran the crowd through the Pledge of Allegiance, spoke about the luncheon he helped host for the Wounded Warriors Project and presented two soldiers with a $25,000 check.
He also unveiled a mural of painted rock stars, which included Slash, Bono, Michael Jackson, Madonna and, naturally, himself. Around him hung posters of the Beatles, the Who, even Coldplay.
