Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences Celebrates 50th Anniversary Of To Kill A Mockingbird
To mark the 50th anniversary of the film version of Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird , a digitally restored version will be shown April 11 at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.
The film will be introduced by talk show host Tavis Smiley and will include an onstage discussion with Mary Badham, who received a best supporting actress Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Scout, the daughter of attorney Atticus Finch (Gregory Peck).
Tickets are $5 for students and $3 for academy members. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. show at 8949 Wilshire Blvd.
Gregory Peck received his only Academy Award for his portray of Atticus Finch. The film received eight Oscars total, including best picture, best adapted screenplay and best black-and-white art direction.
To Kill a Mockingbird was 25th on the American Film Institute’s 2005 list of the greatest American movies of all time. The institute named Finch as the greatest movie hero of the 20th century in 2003.
