David Bowie’s Alter Ego Ziggy Stardust Receives Plaque

David Bowie’s alter ego, Ziggy Stardust, will have a plaque dedicated to him forty years after being photographed on Heddon Street for the album Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars.

The 1972 album depicts Bowie dressed in what became the Ziggy Stardust character’s trademark jumpsuit and platform boots. He’s posing next to a building with his guitar. The picture made both Bowie and Heddon Street famous. Heddon Street is recognized by Time Out and Q magazines as a historic London music site.

The plaque will be unveiled later this month by Spandau Ballet’s Gary Kemp. It will be black rather than the more popular English Heritage blue plaques.
