First-Ever Vladimir Vysotsky Biopic Makes $21 Million In Two Weeks
Drawing crowds and controversy, the first biopic ever of Vladimir Vysotsky, the Soviet singer, theater and film actor, and national hero, has been made.
It comes 31 years after his death at the Moscow Olympics. The anonymous actor who plays Vysotsky spent five hours a day in the makeup chair before filming.
The film is about the the modest singer in a time when rock music was banned in a country where show business didn’t exist. It also portrays the characters who surrounded Vysotsky, the privileged life of party secretaries and KGB sympathizers.
The film has had mixed reviews, but has been a hit with Russian viewers, taking in $21 million at the box office in two weeks.
