Michael Jackson’s Belongings Auction for $1 Million
The contents from Michael Jackson’s home where he lived with his three children before his death at age 50 sold at a Los Angeles auction for nearly $1 million on Saturday. Julien’s Auctions tallied the totals of the day-long auction to have brought in nearly triple the pre-auction estimate of $200,00 to $400,000.
Among the items that were sold were: a kitchen chalkboard where Jackson’s children wrote “I love daddy” ($5,000), an armoire where Jackson wrote a message to himself on the mirror ($25,750). At the family’s request, the headboard from the bed where Jackson died was removed, but the rug underneath the bed sold for $15, 360. It was estimated to sell for $400 to $600.
The Beverly Hills auction company recreated the mansion inside its showroom and invited fans to fill the space where the bed would have been with a tribute items to the King of Pop. Julien’s Auctions promised to deliver all items to Jackson’s children and his mother Katherine Jackson.
Jackson himself commissioned the company sell the contents of his infamous estate Neverland Ranch, but it was called off in early 2009. The company also sold Jackson’s “Thriller” jacket for $1.8 million earlier this year.
