Who said barbershops were passé?
The new Mojo Barbershop in Chinatown on Oahu takes the retro barbershop and gives it a modern twist.
Open this month, this 960-square-foot barbershop on Bethel Street — complete with an old-fashioned barber pole hanging outside — offers a throwback to gentlemen’s traditional haircuts and hot-towel shaves, including hand and foot detailing and detox face treatments for the modern man.
The barbershop includes a waiting lounge, five barber chairs, and a private space with leather seats for hand and foot detailing and facials. And there are the male must-haves: flat-screen TVs, vintage magazines and, of course, beer.
“We designed and created the barbershop for locals, allowing the modern-day man to rediscover quality cuts and shave,” said Marian Lee, co-owner.
The barbershop offers traditional haircuts, buzz cuts (with edged designs for an additional cost), straight-razor shaves, cut-and-shaves, detox facial treatments, mani/pedis.
Its signature offering is the traditional straight-razor shave. This 45-minute process includes several hot towels and a temple massage, finished with a close-cut shave using a new Japanese brand feather-straight blade.
