Haute Event: Dasha Zhukova Hosts Lavish Party for VIPs at the Biennale
Young art entrepreneur Dasha Zhukova, known for being oligarch Roman Abramovich’s girlfriend, yet again heated the headlines of European media when the Russian society beauty hosted one of the hottest parties at the Venice Biennale over the weekend.
The extravaganza called “The Commercial Break” took place at the terrace of Venice’s Bauer Hotel and featured the show of video art by a slew of the hippest contemporary talents. This digital project was set there to represent Dasha’s own Art Venue – The Garage (The Garage Center for Contemporary Culture in Moscow is a space that hosts important contemporary art exhibits by artists like Cindy Sherman, Jeff Koons and Takashi Murakami) and Post magazine.
The star-studded event was attended by artists like Richard Phillips, Todd Eberle, Marina Abramovic, Mike and Doug Starn, Josephine Meckseper, and Ryan McNamara mingled with Sharjah Art Foundation founder Sheika Hoor Al-Qasimi, Courtney Love, Olimpia Scarry, Alexander Dellal and Neville Wakefield.

The party quickly escalated into the most sought-after invitation in town. Hungreds were queuing outside. Bouncers were kept busy late into the night, turning away swarms of millionaires, bigwigs and models due to limited capacity of the place. But not only had that caused exasperation amongst the locals, but apparently Abramovich’s 377-foot yacht Luna, moored at one of the Venice’s most stunning lagoon locations, was blocking the view on St Mark’s Basin, which greatly upset the Venetians.
