Haute Event: CFDA Fashion Awards
On Monday June 6th, The Council of Fashion Designers of America will hold it’s annual CFDA Fashion Awards honoring the most distinguished names in the fashion industry. The event will mark Swarovski’s tenth year as a CFDA sponsor and will honor Nadja Swarovski’s continued support of American fashion.
Each year a CFDA Award Selection Committee consisting of 300 CFDA members and 500 stylists, journalists and retailers are selected to nominate up to three designers for each of the six designer of the year awards and one for each of the five honoree awards. The highly anticipated event is held to recognize the exceptional contributions in various areas of the fashion industry as well as in associated journalism, creative vision and lifetime achievement.
The nominees and honorees of the much-anticipated gala were announced in mid-march at CFDA president Diane Von Furstenberg’s New York studio event. 2011 Honoree’s include Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen whose collection, The Row, is also nominated for the New Talent Award. The Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Marc Jacobs and, to no one’s surprise, Lady Gaga has been selected to receive this years Fashion Icon Award.
A great deal of pressure is placed on the appearance of celebrities on any red-carpet, let alone those attending the year’s most “fashionable” event. The 2011 CFDA Fashion Awards are surely an occasion to look forward to if not for the outfits alone.
