Spiritual Sensuality: The Jewelry of Jessica Robinson
Artist, philanthropist and jewelry designer, Jessica Robinson creates unique jewelry pieces inspired by her many travels and cultural experiences. Particularly taken with Dubai, her design couples tradition with modernity to create elegant jewelry pieces infused with a sense of spirituality and historical purpose. The stunning traditional architecture and spirituality of the mosques are juxtaposed with the modernity of the Dubai marina and the Deira clock tower throughout her work.
Jessica was trained as a bench jeweler and was mentored by Loree Rodkin. Her pieces are sensual and feminine while also strong and edgy. She has a background in fashion and previously worked for Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, and Moschino before leaving the industry to study yoga and travel abroad. Her time spent in Africa and India greatly influenced the design of work. An avid art collector, Jessica’s collection includes photographs of Jean-Michel Basquiat given to her by Lee Jaffe (his personal photographer) as well as street art by political artists such as The Citizen.
Jessica recently created a custom-made piece to raise money for disaster relief in Haiti and Japan. Items from this collection have been worn by Sienna Miller, Zoe Kravitz, Lily Cole, Anne Hathaway and model Joan Smalls (the face of Estee Lauder).
The designer also created the Tortoise Shield Ring which was inspired by two endangered species of turtle found in Dubai, the Hawksbill turtle and Green Turtle. Both the tortoise and the turtle are representative of inner wisdom, focus and determination. They also awaken the senses on both a physical and spiritual level. Such a piece re-instates her quest to install not only a beautiful aesthetic within her work but a profound spiritual energy which will touch the wearer.
