Zip It: Van Cleef & Arpels Births New Additions to the Zip Necklace Family During Haute Couture in Paris
In the 1950’s, French high jewelry house, Van Cleef & Arpels launched their renowned Zip necklace. Born of a suggestion by the Duchess of Windsor, the piece of jewelry was not only artfully crafted but also technically advanced enough to work as a functioning zipper. The Zip necklace, which is actually capable of being worn open as a necklace or zipped closed as a bracelet, quickly became an iconic part of the Van Cleef & Arpels high jewelry family.
To celebrate Haute Couture week, the house revisited the design launching four new editions that incorporate modern references, geometry, and brightly colored stones for an end result that’s fresh and current. And how appropriate, really, to unveil the latest members of the Zip family during a week in Paris that is based upon the idea of careful construction and precision in crafting clothing of a certain caliber.
The pieces will return to New York in February so any interested parties should set up an appointment right away as they surely won’t last long.
