Mitchell & Ness Opens New Flagship in Midtown
Santa’s at the mall and B101.1 is blasting the carols 24/7 — it’s officially the holidays here in Philadelphia. Which means it’s also officially holiday shopping season. And just in time for all of us who have a sports fan on their list (and who among us doesn’t?), Mitchell & Ness has opened a new flagship store.
For more than 100 years, Mitchell & Ness has been the maker of authentic sports gear, both for the players and the fans. Now holding exclusive licenses to produce replica, vintage materials from NBA, MLB, NFL and NHL teams, they provide Philadelphia fans with a way to show off their pride and their fashion sense.
Their new digs on 12th Street are as time-worn and proud as the company itself. A bank in its original life, the space pairs exposed bring walls and marble columns with the retro sports shop’s wood display cases, classic gym lockers and wool pinstripe details. Part store, part museum, replica jerseys stand alongside official helmets and ticket stubs from Philadelphia sports’ most important games. Upstairs from the 2000-square-foot shop, a private meeting and event space plays host to more athletic treasures, including a funky hardwood floor made of recycled planks of a basketball court.
Swing by and check out their feature display of Kelly green Eagles gear, including both men and women’s pieces. Baseball die-hards will fall for the old school wool flannel jerseys, while others will be drawn to the colorful wall of baseball caps lining the the back of the store.
All they want for Christmas is a Super Bowl ring, but you can give them the perfect sweatshirt to watch it happen in.
