Lachlan Murdoch Wins Celebrity-Filled Real Estate Battle

There was an haute battle of the celebs yesterday which finally came with a pretty $29 million conclusion.

Lachlan Murdoch, son of media giant Rupert Murdoch, is the proud new owner of the French government’s former consulate in an exclusive suburb of Sydney, Australia. By way of a high-powered auction that included nine other registered bidders, Murdoch knocked out the likes of actor Russell Crow and his wife Danielle Spencer, and actress Nicole Kidman for the property.

Nicole Kidman sold her house in Darling Point, Australia earlier this year, perhaps in hopes of taking ownership of the French consulate; however Murdoch came out on top during the battle for the prized Bellevue Hill property.

Murdoch is now the owner of a six-bedroom residence featuring stunning panoramic views of Sydney Harbor and the Pacific Ocean. There was a refundable deposit which bidders were required to place in order to enter the bidding, and it is reported that all ten registered bidders were Australian and had all agreed to bid no less than $14 million for the property.

As the oldest son of News Corporation chairman Rupert Murdoch, Lachlan and his wife, model and TV presenter Sarah, are looking forward to welcoming their third child. They already have two sons, Kalan, 4, and Aidan, 3, who may be practicing their French in order to be able to say ‘bonjour’ to their new sibling should the family move into Murdoch’s latest investment. However, the couple also bought a waterfront property at Bronte Beach in 2005, so it’s anyone’s guess at the moment as to what they plan on doing with the consulate.
