How LoveShackFancy’s Founder Gets Ready for Summer

In 2013, Rebecca Hessel Cohen had no idea that she was about to make fashion history. What initially started as a simple bridesmaid dress has since evolved into LoveShackFancy, a famous fashion brand renowned for its chic floral prints and whimsical silhouettes. A household name, LoveShackFancy has made waves in the fashion space, and Cohen is at the helm. We chatted with her to learn about how the brand came to be where it is today, the brand’s latest collaboration with Malibu, and her getting-ready essentials.
HAUTE LIVING: What was the inspiration for LoveShackFancy?
REBECCA HESSEL COHEN: It all started with my wedding. I couldn’t find the bridesmaid dresses I was dreaming of anywhere, so I designed them myself. Beautiful long halter chiffon gowns that were ethereal, elegant, and easy to dance in. And from that one moment, I just couldn’t stop dreaming of more.
The brand has always been an extension of how I live and what I love. Vintage finds from flea markets in Provence, flowers everywhere, and that sense of romance and femininity I grew up surrounded by.
And then there is pink. Pink is not a trend for us; it is a way of life. Our DNA, our heartbeat. The color of romance, joy, optimism, and everything LoveShackFancy stands for. It makes people happy. And at the end of the day, that’s always been the point.
HL: Who is the brand for, and how have you seen its fans develop over the years?
RHC: LoveShackFancy has always been for women who want to feel romantic, joyful, feminine, and completely themselves. It was never about one type of woman or one age. The brand grew organically from my own life, and as I’ve evolved through different chapters—motherhood, travel, building a home, building a company—the brand has evolved alongside me.
What’s been most beautiful to witness is how deeply multigenerational our community has become. Women who first discovered us at trunk shows in the Hamptons over a decade ago are still with us today, now shopping alongside their daughters, sisters, mothers, and friends. There’s something incredibly meaningful about that kind of loyalty and connection.
Our women live full, beautiful lives. They travel, entertain, collect, host, fall in love, and dress for themselves first. What connects all of them is a shared love of beauty, romance, nostalgia, and femininity without apology. That’s always been the heart of LoveShackFancy, and I think it’s why women find us and continue growing with us year after year.

HL: On social media, you do a lot of “Getting Ready” videos. How has getting ready with you made your community grow?
RHC: I’ve always loved sharing my favorite things and inviting people into the getting ready process because it’s such a fun and joyful part of going out. Getting ready is never just about the outfit, it’s about the energy around it: doing makeup with friends, trying on looks together, listening to music, having a cocktail in hand, and creating memories and excitement before the night even begins.
Sharing those moments online has made my community feel more connected and involved in the process rather than just observing the final result. That’s something we really wanted to bring to life through our recent Malibu Pink partnership during festival season in Palm Springs.
Malibu and LoveShackFancy created the “Get Ready With Pink” VIP Glam Suite at a private villa near the festival grounds, designed to feel like the ultimate pre-festival GRWM moment.
Guests could stop by before the festival, get their hair and makeup done by professional artists while wearing our Malibu x LoveShackFancy robes, sip Malibu Pink cocktails, take photos with friends, and really enjoy that whole getting-ready ritual together. The entire experience was designed to blend Malibu Pink’s fun, carefree summer energy with LoveShackFancy’s romantic, ultra-feminine world in a way that felt playful, immersive, and very natural to both brands. It genuinely felt like stepping into a real-life GRWM moment.
What made it truly special was seeing something people usually experience online become a real moment of connection. Everyone was interacting, styling each other, taking photos, and enjoying that excitement before a night out together. It felt fun, nostalgic, social, and effortless in a way that really reflected both Malibu Pink and LoveShackFancy.

HL: What are your ‘getting ready’ essentials for a summer party?
RHC: For me, it’s all about creating a mood. I love a romantic dress, glowing skin, great music, fresh flowers, and something fun to sip while everyone is getting ready together.

RHC: In the next ten years, I see that world becoming even more complete. The idea of extending LoveShackFancy into physical experiences—members clubs, cafés, even a hotel—feels like a dream extension of everything we’ve built so far. We’ve always believed our woman wants to wake up in LoveShackFancy, get dressed in LoveShackFancy, and live inside that feeling in every part of her life. It’s never just been about clothing. And in many ways, it still feels like we’re only at the beginning of bringing that world fully to life.
What excites me most is that the brand continues to mean something deeply personal to the women who love it. That’s something I never take for granted. When a brand becomes multigenerational, when it’s passed from one woman to the next, you realize you’ve built something that lives beyond trends. Something lasting. That’s what we continue building toward every single day.
