At This Luxury Caribbean Hotel, You Can Visit, Foster & Adopt Animals During Your Stay

The St. Regis Bahia Beach in Puerto Rico is more than just a five-star hotel. Sure, it has unparalleled luxe accommodations, top-tier food and beverage, a world-class golf course, and perhaps the highlight, a prime beach and lush jungle surroundings. Through partnering with a non-profit called Alma de Bahia, the property works to preserve its environment and ecosystems of its 483-acre nature reserve. Together, they fence off any leatherback turtle nests found on the beaches during nesting season, monitor all nests, and help the hatchlings make their way to the ocean. The property and non-profit recently aided in the release of manatees into the ocean. And they teamed up to create Sato and Gato Rescue, an on-site pet shelter and cat sanctuary, where they rescue and rehabilitate stray dogs and cats, and then help them to find their forever homes.

Guests of the hotel are able to visit the shelter, take the dogs for walks, foster them in their hotel room during their stay, and then to take it one step further, even adopt the dogs and cats to bring them home with them. The shelter has all of the contacts and paperwork ready to go to fly the pets to their new homes as well. All of the animals are fully vaccinated, spayed and neutered, and completely free of any adoption fees.
