For the eighth edition, a number echoing Christian Dior’s lucky digit, a diverse group of artists from around the world, including Mircea Cantor, Jeffrey Gibson, Gilbert & George, Ha Chong-Hyun, Lee Kun-Yong, Mariko Mori, Ludovic Nkoth, Hilary Pecis, Mickalene Thomas, Zadie Xa, Michaela Yearwood-Dan, and Xu Zhen, united to reinterpret the iconic Lady Dior. This transformation transcends the realm of fashion to become a unique creation, an emblem of inventiveness and poetry that lives through the handbag as its canvas. Dior’s Lady Art #8 took center stage at this year’s Miami Art Basel with an exhibition celebrating the Maison’s iconic handbag, taking residence at the Dior boutique in Miami’s vibrant Design District.
Among the talented artists chosen for this project is Zadie Xa, a Korean-Canadian artist renowned for her traditional collage style and mastery of Korean handicraft techniques. With her creative touch, she breathes life into three distinct Lady Dior bags, each infused with the essence of unique animal characters and enigmatic landscapes. Mariko Mori, a Japanese multidisciplinary artist, brings her signature light work to the forefront as she pays homage to Dior’s code of femininity through her reinterpretation of the Lady Dior bag. Her artistic vision adds a touch of ethereal beauty to this iconic accessory.
