Opulent New Art Deco Themed Bar Opens In Midtown’s West

New York City’s history is rich and colorful, full of speakeasies and scandalous goings-on. Today, the city still dabbles in all things decadent, and the opulent new art deco themed bar ensconced on the 41st floor of Aliz Hotel Times Square is the latest addition to the city’s history.

The reservations-only 75-seat bar offers a new and expanded cocktail menu from Bar Director Meaghan Dorman, breathtaking views of Manhattan from two terraces and delicious dining options. Guests will check in on the 40th floor and then be escorted up a short flight of stairs to the 41st floor. Upon entering, guests are greeted by Dauphine Mauroits’ time travel design—an art deco dreamscape to counterbalance the mod feel of the 1960s James Bond theme below. The urbane, refined and commodious space resembles that of where you expect to find Gatsby and Daisy sipping frivolously from velvet seats. The north side sports a refined and intimate bar, inspired by those found in old hotels, while long banquettes occupy the south side. Perch and take in the views of downtown from velvet pink and orange seats, a plush blue sofa or burgundy banquettes. A backlit perforated metal screen with an Art Deco geometric pattern provides added visual appeal and a chandelier suggesting a starburst illuminates the scene, creating a world away from the streets below.

As for the menu, cocktails from tropical to those mixing international and domestic distillations are all on offer. “Given the chilly snowbird season, I wanted to serve cocktails that provide a bit of a tropical escape to warmer climates, and many of our guests are indeed on holiday, hence Adventure Isle,” says Dorman. “Our Global Entry cocktails celebrate the incredible product diversity in the spirits world right now, with outstanding spirits being produced both in the U.S. and abroad. Why not marry them together?” The drinks being served are also available in the bar below, minus the Adventure Isle and Global Entry menu.

First introduced on the 40th floor, Sunset Hour continues above and includes drink specials, large format and specialty serves, and a whiskey decanter of Boulevardier served with specialty glasses. The beverage menu also includes a spirits list of 15 Scotch, Irish and Japanese whiskeys, 13 American whiskeys, 10 gins, 9 tequilas, beer and wine from Spain and the U.S.

While the bar menu is extensive, it wouldn’t be complete without a culinary menu focusing on shareable plates that encourage conviviality. Plates include jerk chicken skewers, croque monsieur, rock shrimp tempura, petite Abeille sliders, serrano ham, Portobello toast and more, including a nibble plate of soppressata, mixed olives and gruyere. To top it off, indulge in the sweet pleasure of macarons.
