World Renowned Bartender Ivy Mix Re-Imagines DIEGO’S Cocktail Program At PUBLIC Hotel

DIEGO at PUBLIC, the sophisticated cocktail bar within the hotel, has just launched a new beverage program from world-renowned bartender Ivy Mix. The lounge takes its name from Diego Rivera, iconic Mexican artist, husband of Frida Kahlo, and fixture of the counterculture during the early 20th Century.

Rivera and Kahlo, whose torrid love affair was legendary, were inspired by the cities they visited during their infamous travels. Mix’s revamped menu, draws inspiration from Rivera and Kahlo’s global travels at the peak of their careers, and reintroduces DIEGO as downtown’s very own salon.

“The new menu is a celebration of Diego Rivera’s nomadic lifestyle,” says Mix, winner of American Bartender of the Year at Tales of The Cocktail. “He got to live all over the world, and in places that produce some of the best spirits.” A notable bon vivant, Rivera himself may have enjoyed some of the early-century classics on the revamped menu, while Mix’s new concoctions capture his revolutionary energy with bold flavors and creative recipes.

Inspired by the artist’s journeys and informed by her own global travels, Mix has concocted a menu that showcases the flavors of Mexico City, Rome, Paris, Madrid and New York City. The offerings, broken down by city, offer guests a tour of the world’s best spirits.

“When you look at Diego’s life and work, he truly was a global citizen at a time where it was not easy to travel such long distances,” says Mix. “It’s so fitting that PUBLIC, and the bar that takes his name, is full of today’s global citizens. Come in, have a world-class cocktail, and perhaps start a conversation with someone from the other side of the world. Or, at least experience some of the best spirits from there.”

The beverage offerings complement DIEGO’S upscale vibe, which is reminiscent of a private club in London, or a bustling lounge during the roaring 20s. Blurring the line between bar and restaurant, the cocktail menu will be served alongside an international menu of small plates, created by Jean-Georges Vongerichten and inspired by Rivera and Kahlo’s time together at Casa Azul.
