Zara is in the news, but it’s not for their latest campaign.

Istanbul, Turkey factory workers are slipping handwritten notes for help into the Spanish retailer’s merchandise.

“I made this item you are going to buy, but I didn’t get paid for it,” is one of the alleged words written on the tags of Zara apparel.

Business of Fashion report Istanbul Zara shoppers found the tags in garments placed by desperate unpaid Turkish workers alleging they have not been paid for their work, and hoping for consumers to put pressure on the retailer.

The workers were outsourced from the manufacture Bravo Tesktil, which closed down overnight leaving them short of a staggering three months pay and severance. But this isn’t the first time Bravo has been under fire for failing to pay its workers.

According to Refinery29, the manufacturer had allegedly been shut down in July 2016 for the same reason. The online media outlet reached out to Zara for comment and was provided with the following from Inditex:

“Inditex has met all of its contractual obligations to Bravo Textil [sic] and is currently working on a proposal with the local IndustriALL affiliate, Mango, and Next to establish a hardship fund for the workers affected by the fraudulent disappearance of the Bravo factory’s owner. This hardship fund would cover unpaid wages, notice indemnity, unused vacation, and severance payments of workers that were employed at the time of the sudden shutdown of their factory in July 2016. We are committed to finding a swift solution for all of those impacted.”
