It’s revelations like this that make me believe wholly in the advancement of the sustainable food movement. Hopeful if anything. We now have a generation of people who understand eating is an ethical act in a way that no other generation has before.

Umami partnered with Impossible Food to make the nutritious meat-free burger called the “Umami Impossible Burger.” Impossible Foods makes delicious, nutritious meat and dairy products directly from plants– with a much smaller environmental footprint than those produced from animals.

The “Impossible” burger derives from that same principle. The “Umami Impossible Burger” uses 95% less land and 74% less water, and it’s 100% hormone, artificial ingredients, and antibiotics free. All the while creating 87% less of greenhouse emissions.

It’s by no means a vegan burger or aimed at the vegan crowd, but they can make a vegan alternative for you– just ask. The burger is currently served with two “Impossible” patties and topped with caramelized onions, American cheese, house spread, dill pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, and miso-mustard.

As our population expands, we’re going to need more sustainable foods. The “Umami Impossible Burger” is the first step towards high-tech breeds. With the rise of the vegan movement, this is the first step towards culinary advancement.
