Getting a coveted spot on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list is no easy feat. Think about the seemingly limitless amount of restaurants there are in the world, and then imagine them all battling it out to get 1 of a limited 50 spots. This year was no exception to the high caliber of competitors we’ve seen in the past. While Massimo Bottura of Italy’s Osteria Francescana scored the powerful No.1 title, Britain’s top eateries were not far behind.
Three UK restaurants secured spots on the list this year. The highest-ranking British restaurant was Chef Brett Graham’s 2-Michelin star restaurant The Ledbury in London’s Notting hill, which came in at number 14. Which in turn, makes it the best restaurant in the entire United Kingdom.
The Clove Club however, was the highest new entry on the list at number 26. This Shoreditch spot is notorious for their ambitious five-course menu, which highlights rare and overlooked British ingredients. The famous Dinner by Heston Blumenthal at the Mandarin Oriental, Hyde Park managed to get in at 47 for his ability to highlight Britain’s gastronomic history.
