The Good Cause Behind London’s New Luxury Floating Hotel

The Good Hotel

After Brexit has left many in the U.K. fearing for financial stability and job opportunities, a new social enterprise project comes baring good news. Last June 2015, a hotel was built on a large floating platform in Amsterdam with the aim of giving opportunities to locals struggling to find employment. The 144-room hotel is now being transported across the North Sea in the hopes to do the same in London by September.

The project is the creation of the Good Hospitality Group, who have named this new venture The Good Hotel. The opportunities this project will bring are poised to provide long-term employment versus short-term solutions. Employees will receive extensive training preparing them for available roles in the Good Hospitality Group’s many hotel properties.

Jos de Groot, director of operations at the Good Hospitality Group, told The Guardian that the project aims to help people from different backgrounds, such as a young mother who has fallen off the career ladder, someone who lost their job in the recession or someone with a criminal record.

“They all need a second chance,” he says.

While contributing to education and employment opportunities, The Good Hotel will also provide Londoners who fantasize about spending a night on the water a luxurious place to do so. The hotel will anchor at Royal Victoria Dock, where guests and the public will be able to enjoy a rooftop garden with a cafe and terrace, a living room with gourmet food and drinks, communal workspaces, and private meeting rooms.
