See Amy Adams and Susan Sarandon at Max Mara’s Posh Whitney Party

We doesn’t love a great birthday bash?  The other night Max Mara proved they sure know how to throw one.

Te Italian luxury label invited stars Amy Adams and Susan Sarandon, along with other celebrities and arts personalities, to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the opening of the new Whitney, as well as the launch of  Whitney Bag Anniversary Edition (last year the brand created a special bag for the museum’s Downtown debut).

The super exclusive dinner drew 70 guests who also joined Luigi Maramotti, Max Mara Chairman, for a preview of the museum’s newest exhibition, Human Interest: Portraits from the Whitney’s Collection. In addition to Adams, Sarandon, and Maramotti, the well dressed partygoers included Sarah Arison*, Deeda Blair, Zoe Buckman*, Alexandra Chemla*, Pippa Cohen,* Blythe Danner,* Laura de Gunzburg*, Sally Field*, Casey Fremont*, Jonah Freeman, Mary Frey, Nina Garcia*, K8 Hardy, Maria Giulia Maramotti*, Cornelia Guest, Sarah Hoover*, Flora Irving*, William Ivey Long, Roxanne Lowit, Deborah Kass*, Josephine Meckseper, Elizabeth Peabody, Tom Sachs, Mario Sorrenti, Giorgia Tordini, Tommy Tune, Stuart Uoo, William Wegman, Adam Weinberg, Arden Wohl*, and Bellamy Young*(*wearing Max Mara).

The Human interest show was an appropriate one for guests to take in since the Whitney Bag Anniversary Edition is inspired by a Sargent drawing of Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, the founder of the Museum, wearing a custom dress created by the legendary Léon Bakst. Referencing the design DNA of the original Whitney Bag (a collaboration with Renzo Piano Building Workshop), the Anniversary Edition is reimagined with the floral and leaf decorative motif found on the Bakst dress. Only 400 of the taupe colored Whitney Bag Anniversary Editions will be made, so you can bet they’ll fast become collector’s items.
