Have you ever wondered what celebrities do when they turn up at an event filled with dozens of other celebrities? They schmooze, gawk, and ask for selfies just like the rest of us!
It’s easy to think everyone in the fame kingdom knows one another, but judging from the power networking at play during this year’s Time 100 Gala, it’s obvious they don’t. But then the Time 100 List of the most influential people in the world is so broad ranging (from sports and politics to entertainment and media), only someone like President Obama might have a connection to everyone who made the cut.
So who was there? Donald Trump, but he had to dash before polls closed on primary night. Riccardo Tisci (described on the list as a “fashion agitator”h), Preet Bharara, Melissa McCarthy, Caitlyn Jenner, Ariana Grande, Karlie Kloss, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Aziz Ansari, Gina Rodriguez, Padma Lakshmi, Lindsey Vonn, Trevor Noah, Priyanka Chopra, Dr. Jill Biden, Lewis Hamilton, Alexander Wang, FKA Twigs, Matt Lauer, Danny Meyer, Arianna Huffington, Gayle King, Samantha Power, Norah O’Donnell, and Wendi Murdoch.
McCarthy, Jenner, and Hamilton made toasts to the mentors, family members, and friends who impacted their lives. McCarthy even gave a shout-out to Ariana Grande, praising the “huge voice that comes out of that little body.”

Karlie Kloss made it a power date night, showing up with beau Joshua Kushner. Lindsey Vonn chatted with with Caitlyn Jenner by the Johnnie Walker bar; the two athletes then posed for photos and a selfie when Gayle King joined them. Quantico actress Priyanka Chopra laughed when she noticed her Time 100 Gala cover projected on the wall. Melissa McCarthy arrived minutes before Ariana Grande’s opening performance when Vonn had a fangirl moment and ran up to McCarthy, asking her to “Come to table two and have a drink with me!”
The mega-celebrity wattage, along with Johnnie Walker’s specialty cocktails, helped make for a very lively evening!
