Haute Spots Boston: Osteria Posto of Waltham

The latest osteria to pop up just surfaced in Waltham. If you haven’t already formally met, consider this your personal introduction to Osteria Posto. Located across from the Westin Hotel, the focus here is just as much on great steaks as it is on delicious Italian fare. Parking in front of the restaurant can be a bit of a challenge, especially during the popular after-work hours, but there is a complimentary parking garage located around back where spaces are abundant.

Get started with a cocktail from their nice list like our favorite, the Blood, Sweat & Tequila or try a nice stiff gin martini to go alongside a sampling of the chef’s selection of charcuterie (think salt cured foie gras, capicola, chicken liver and pate) and a sampling of deliciously aged cheeses. We couldn’t get enough of the crispy pork croquettes that were better than we remember them as kids made with fontina, asiago and creme fraiche mustard.

Try a sampling of four lamb meatballs in a spicy smoked tomato sauce as an appetizer or add them to a pasta dish. We recommend the tagliatelle, a rich ragu of pork, veal and beef topped with parmesan cheese. For pasta selections, they offer everything here from braised short rib gnocchi to spaghetti carbonara simply prepared with black pepper and pecorino.

We recommend ordering a bottle of Hunt & Harvest Cabernet to go alongside a juicy 16-ounce bone-in sirloin with fingerling garlic and thyme potatoes and mushrooms in a sweet marsala sauce. There is a nice selection of grilled pizzas on the lunch menu that include fig as well as chicken with basil pesto and roasted tomatoes.Osteria PostoPhoto Credit: Osteria Posto

For dessert, don’t miss the apple crostata with vanilla ice cream for the perfect ending.
