Gamer Gifts: Meet The $19K Super Mario Bros. Watch

Everyone’s favorite plumber, Mario of Nintendo’s beloved Mario Bros., has received a pretty significant update since the game first launched in 1985. We’re not just talking about the many evolutions of the game, but of the character itself—who is now featured on a $18,950 timepiece from Romain Jerome.

The luxury watchmaker has celebrated the red smocked plumber’s 30th anniversary in a big way: with this limited edition, Super Mario Bros. mechanical timepiece. The watch itself features a 46mm case and is made out of black titanium. The three-layer, 3-D dial is loaded with enamel-coated pixel figurines such as a toadstool (who could forget those) and a fluffy cloud that defined the original game. Mario is caught mid-leap on the pixelated face heading towards one of the mushrooms, giving this particular timepiece a truly retro-cool look that pays homage to its birth year.

The watch also features an automatic movement with a 42-hour power reserve. It will also come with a Moon Invader-style case in PVD-coated black titanium, and will feature lugs that move along with its strap to help in order to form a better fit.

True fans of the game may want to rush this pre-holiday purchase given that only 85 timepieces will be made.

Although the Swiss watchmaker only announced this fun new collector’s item on Monday, it’s been teasing the release on its Facebook page for a few days with pixelated photos of clouds and mushrooms.

So where can you purchase this limited edition Super Mario Bros. timepiece? Romain Jerome has dealers worldwide, but Angelenos in particular can pick up their Nintendo bling at Jewell’s at Galpin Premier on Roscoe Blvd. in Los Angeles.

As a side note, the Super Mario Bros. timepiece is simply the latest gaming watch from the Swiss timepiece maker. Romain Jerome already offers pieces featuring Pac-Man, Space Invaders and Tetris.
