Haute Spots Boston: Ocean Prime

One of Boston’s most long awaited restaurants is finally here. Ocean Prime has recently opened in the Seaport District and it’s definitely worth a visit.

This is the first New England location for Columbus, Ohio’s Cameron Mitchell Restaurants. At first step inside the beautiful space, you will see a massive granite bar, floor to ceiling wine wall and baby grand piano. During the warmer months, Ocean Prime will open a seasonal terrace for al fresco dining late spring through early fall.

We recently visited and were quickly greeted by our friendly server Holly, who presented us with a basket of warm pretzels and sourdough bread. The balanced steak and seafood menu here features a raw bar, hand-rolled sushi and filets, ribeyes and New York strips broiled at 1200 degrees.

Try a Prime Margarita made with Don Julio Blanco tequila, elderflower, ruby red grapefruit, and agave nectar, a stiff gin martini with blue cheese olives or a glass of wine from more than 50 bottles available by the glass. Get started with a sampling of sweet and fiery Point Judith calamari served with candied cashews. We love the flavorful ahi tuna tartare with avocado, ginger ponzu and sesame seeds.

Seafood offerings include teriyaki salmon, blackened snapper, yellowfin tuna and twin lobster tails. We recommend the uber tender 16-ounce ribeye and flavorful Kansas City strip grilled to our medium rare liking. Sides here are served a la carte and are large enough to share between two guests. A steak dinner would be remiss without a sampling of sautéed button mushrooms. The spicy jalapeno au gratin was a decadent indulgence as was the black truffle mac and cheese. Be sure to save some room for their signature 10-layer carrot cake, the perfect ending to an enjoyable night out on the town. Dinner is served nightly and lunch is available weekdays. Ocean Prime is located at 140 Seaport Boulevard in Boston.
