Who doesn’t know Nicole Miller? The fashion designer’s chic and sexy aesthetic has been a staple for women since she opened her first boutique on Madison Avenue in Manhattan in 1986. Fabulous fashionistas flock to Miller’s designs, which historically are known for being black or boldly colored with an emphasis on proportions, curves and necklines, yet always specifically sexy. Given the sex appeal of her designs, we thought Miller would be the perfect person to share her tips for holiday dressing. We all need to know how to look chic, sleek and simply gorgeous at our plethora of holiday fetes—regardless of whether we live in sunny southern California or in the far chillier Big Apple. Without further ado, here are Nicole Miller‘s top seven holiday fashion tips.

Question 1

1.  So many people stick to darker colors during the winter months.  Get noticed at the party in a bright, bold print like this Luxuriant Jersey Dress.

Question 2

2.  An embellished romper paired with black tights is a fun alternative to the cocktail dress such as my Iridescent Embellished Romper.

Question 3

3.  Experiment with textures like lace and fringe, which make an LBD much more interesting such as this Fringe and Lace Shift Dress.

Question 4_2

4. High-waisted trousers are a great option for those who don’t love dresses and skirts.  Wear them with a matching crop top for a chic, standout look.

Question 5_1

5.  A long sleeved dress transitions seamlessly from day to night – just add a pair of statement earrings or a necklace and heels! My pick: my Quinn Long Sleeve Dress. Question 6_1

6.  Mix pretty, feminine separates with edgier pieces like a leather jacket or studded blazer with an asymmetrical skirt.

Question 7_2

7.  Incorporate a shimmering piece into your outfit for a festive look – just be careful that you don’t overdo it. Pair an all-over sequined mini with a solid silk top for the perfect balance.
