On Saturday night, Seth Rogen and his wife, Lauren Miller Rogen, put on one heck of a variety show at their fourth annual Hilarity for Charity variety show, which raises funds for the Alzheimer’s Association. How could they not when the event was entitled James Franco‘s bar mitzvah?
After noshing on food truck fare and cocktails by Svedka, the show started. Comedian Rogen, 33, donned traditional garb and danced the hora set to a tune from Fiddler on the Roof before stand-up comedians Bill Hader, Kyle Kinnane, Ron Funches, Al Madrigal and Justin Willman took the stage.
Later, after a live auction officiated by Hader (where lots such as dinner with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and Rogen were auctioned off for over $100,000 apiece), “rabbi” Jeff Goldblum officiated Franco’s bar mitzvah, while Zac Efron, appearing in a towel in a pre-taped segment, appeared onscreen as part of the actor’s soon-to-be-missing genitalia. Yes, it was as weird, wacky and hilarious as it sounds.
The band HAIM then performed “Hava Nagilia” before Miley Cyrus took to the stage to perform hits like “We Can’t Stop” and “Shout”—at Rogen’s personal request.
Notable attendees at the event, which was held at the Hollywood Palladium, included Adam Shapiro, Katie Lowes, Joey King, Maria Shriver, Clark Gregg and Leeza Gibbons.
About Hilarity for Charity: In 2012, Seth Rogen and Lauren Miller Rogen (along with some amazing friends), created Hilarity for Charity (HFC), a movement to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease among the millennial generation. In a partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association, HFC helps families struggling with Alzheimer’s care, increases support groups nationwide, and funds cutting edge research. Hilarity for Charity has raised over $2.5 million since its inception to support these efforts.
