Weekend in Review: Ramadan Photo Exhibit and Alfred Hitchcock
Ramadan in Dubai is a time of quiet and few happenings, but if you really search, you can still find some fabulous things to do. Alserkal Avenue is continuing its exhibits and film series during the Holy Month of Ramadan. Over the weekend, the art hub’s member organizations hosted a Ramadan photo exhibition called #unseenDXB Photo Trail and the Alfred Hitchcock film North by Northwest.
The spirit of Ramadan at Al Ras Metro Station

The Al Ras Metro Station at Alserkal Avenue hosted the #unseenDXB Photo Trail in honor of Ramadan. The exhibit will be open again on July 1 if you missed it over the weekend but still want to catch it. The exhibition offers a glimpse into the celebration of Ramadan in the old Naif neighborhood located behind the souks. The neighborhood is one of togetherness and spirituality as well as copious amounts of traffic.
The photo exhibit captures the Ramadan celebrations of the average, everyday worker. Alserkal describes sunset during the Holy Month of Ramadan as “magical” because Naif has the largest number of mosques compared to all other parts of Old Dubai. All it takes is a few minutes for the neighborhood to be transformed from a quiet area of worship to one filled with calls to prayers. The photographers sought to capture the authentic experience of Ramadan before and after sunset. They blended in with the people of the neighborhood to capture their true experiences as insiders.
North by Northwest at A4 Space

Farida’s CineClub at A4 Space showed Alfred Hitchcock’s North by Northwest on Saturday. The spy thriller stars Hollywood legend Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint and James Mason. The story is one of mistaken identity as agents from a secret organization try to smuggle out government secrets and stop the main character from interfering.
