Victoria Beckham Opens First London Store

Former Spice Girl turned fashion designer, Victoria Beckham, has opened her first UK shop. Spread out over three floors in Dover Street, the flagship store is Beckham’s first since launching her fashion line eight years ago.

Designed by Iranian architect Farshid Moussavi, the stand alone 6,000 sqft store features cut away glassing, dark-mirrored walls, a  concrete staircase and clothes hanging from metal chains on the ceiling.

The space has to be experienced: reminiscent of an exhibition, it’s much more than merely a place to pick up key VB pieces

Beckham who skipped the official opening today to speak to the UN general assembly in New York says that the store has been two years in the making. The 40 year old Mother of four, who personally selected the sales assistants, sees the shop as another way of presenting her fans with a window into her world.

“It’s my way of saying thank-you – and not just to the fashion people but to the public who have come on this journey with me,” she told London’s Evening Standard ahead of the launch.

Of course there is a cornucopia of covetable items to purchase (all purchases are made through iPads in keeping with the fashion maven’s minimalist design) – and not just her signature corset dresses. Lust have items include the ‘Ironically Victoria’ mirrored aviator sunglasses – exclusive to the Mayfair boutique – and a White micro twill coat with a gold chain (£2,750) from Beckham’s autumn-winter ready to wear collection. Victoria by Victoria Beckham – the designer’s more affordable and super successful off-shoot –  is also on sale so that every Londoner can get a bit of posh…
