Steven Spielberg has selected his first project since 2012’s Lincoln: a live-action remake of Roald Dahl‘s famous children’s story, The BFG.
The book, which was originally published in 1982, revolves around the tale of a Big Friendly Giant who befriends a young orphan.
DreamWorks acquired the book in 2011, and various directors have been attached to the project, including John Madden and Chris Columbus, before Spielberg stepped in.
A planned start date of early 2015 is projected with a release slated for 2016.
In addition to The BFG, the 67-year-old is also attached to direct the David Kertzer novel The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara and an untitled Cold War project with Tom Hanks attached to star.
