A Winter Ball conjures  images of Cinderella, my favorite salvation fairy tale complete with lost glass slipper. The School of American Ballet has had 80 years of grand Winter’s Balls and no one was said to have lost a Jimmy Choo. The legendary jeweler, Van Cleef and Arpels is the sponsor of the gala, named Starry NIght, for the 7th straight year. The relationship dates back to a friendship with founder of SAB, George Balanchine, and Claude Arpel, one of the brother’s of the Maison. It was said that both loved exceptional stones and Mr Balanchine created a ballet called ” “jewels” because of this. In honor of the gala, VCA created two spectacular jeweled pieces inspired by dance which will be on display ( see above).

The glamorous evening and fundraiser is attended by 500 patrons including the school’s board members as well as the leaders of the New York corporate and social communities. The David Koch theater will be enchantingly decorated by Ron Wendt Designs in a palette of silver and white. Expect lots of twinkling.

And because every lady loves an evening bag, Amanda Pearl was enlisted to create satin box clutches in an astrology theme also called Starry Night. Amanda will donate 20% of the sale price to the school and the bag can be customized with Swarovski crystals.

The soiree is set for Monday March 3rd and all stars point to an elegant evening with a cocktails, dinner, dancing and a performance. No worries about turning into a pumpkin at midnight. You can dance from 9 to 11 with plenty of time to get back !
